In general, patients develop whiplash symptoms shortly after the accident or whiplash injuries in neck - these symptoms are not unique to the neck, but may also be a number of other joint, muscle, soft tissue or mental problems. Most patients develop symptoms of whiplash within twenty-four hours after the injury.
Symptoms of whiplash injuries predominate pain in the neck and headaches. Usually there is pain in the hands and shoulders after accidents involving whiplash. Other less common whiplash symptoms are dizziness, disturbances in the vision and tinnitus, or noises in the ears. Whiplash injuries are also associated with pain in the lower back - as some studies suggest low back pain in nearly 40% of all patients. The temporary loss of memory and tearfulness is sometimes experienced after whiplash - such as problems with swallowing or speech.
Common Whiplash Symptoms
1st Neck pain after Whiplash: The patients feel neck pain after whiplash injury, usually on the back of the neck, and is usually boring, and aching in nature. Movements of neck intense the neck pain. Neck pain is typically associated with rigid neck muscles and a decrease in the range of motion in neck. The neck after whiplash often extends to the shoulders or upper back between the shoulders. Many studies have tried to find where the neck pain occurs - most likely reason seems to be connections between spine - but so far there is no clear answer to this question.
2nd Headache after Whiplash: Headache is the second most common whiplash injury symptoms after whiplash injury. Headache, usually on the back of the neck and sometimes the pain is felt for several weeks after the accident.
3rd Blurred Vision after Whiplash: Many patients have problems in vision for a few days after the whiplash injury. No one knows why these will happen, but may happen in about ten percent of people who suffered whiplash injuries.
4th Dizziness after Whiplash: The percentage vary from various studies, but it seems that up to 50 percent of people experience dizziness for one week after the whiplash injury.
5th Problems with Memory and Concentration: It has been seen and tested that there are poor concentration problems within two weeks after the accident.
6th Lower Back Pain after Whiplash: Until recently, the issue of pain in the lower back after whiplash is a little controversial. Several excellent new studies have shown that back pain is real and quite often. Although low-back pain is recovering faster than neck pain after whiplash injury and showed that up to 60 percent of all injuries from whiplash patients complain of them.
